Maiden, Mother, Crone

Lately life cycles have been dominating my thoughts, projects, and creativity.

There’s this sense of returning to an “old self” while simultaneously becoming a “new self”… blending my holy trinity: Maiden, Mother, Crone. After all, they are all one self. They are all me, just at different stages in life.

Over the past decade (since my trip to Alberta’s Rocky Mountains in 2015) I have been pumping out Canadian Landscapes, and doing roadtrips in search of more and more inspiration to continue.

Yet, there’s been this parallel creative line that’s been running beside those landscapes, that express my inner world. Poetry. Most of that writing is inspired by a rich inner landscape of energy and powerful visual imagery and spiritual epiphanies. The next step for me, is to start “sketching” my poems.

I will likely share these as “rough drafts” on my Substack, so be sure to follow me there: Jennifer Anne Burke. You can also sign up to receive my monthly “Artist Note” right to your inbox.

Are you a creative person? What sort of cycles do you see in your own work?
