Welcome Spring

We are wrapping up a long weekend here (Easter), and it was so nice to enjoy some spring-like weather. It was also nice to have some time to play in the studio!

As an artist who pushes to sell my work, I often under-value “play” because it can sometimes feel wasteful, with no end product to “sell.” However, as a true artist, who wants to explore, expand, and create for the sake of creating I know there is GREAT value in taking time to play and experiment with art materials, methods, and crafts.

During the weekend, I pulled out my sketch book and played with a few loose drawings (based of some winter landscapes from a friend). Then I moved onto some watercolour exploration – using watercolour “crayons” for the first time in my life. I really enjoyed the lines and vibrancy of their colour!

After this I returned to some oil painting, and although I was not happy with the overall composition I was really happy with the colour palette. This is a painting I am going to try to do a second time, and maybe a third haha, because I don’t want to paint over this one but I have a really good feeling about the direction it’s going… I went out and bought new palette knives today, because I have some ideas for the next one… stay tuned!

Here we are, spring has arrived and I’m still painting winter!
