Featured Artist: Vera Litynsky

Vera Litynsky is a local artist that enjoys keeping creatively occupied. Wicklow Studio (within the walls of Wicklow Manor Bed & Breakfast, just east of Grafton) showcases her wide array of paintings along with her Vintage Vessels soy candles and her whimsical bird feeders crafted from vintage china. Inspired by the surrounding Northumberland Hills, Vera experiments with new painting techniques and artisanal designs, many with sustainability in mind. “I witnessed boxes filled with mismatched china, glassware, wood and fabric at landfill sites, so I was determined to repurpose these lovely objects and offer beautiful alternatives.”

Vera’s paintings are mainly acrylic on canvas but she’s also relishing the unpredictability of watercolours and has produced many studies of everyday food. “When you also run a bed & breakfast, you appreciate locally grown produce and everyday staples like our own eggs; they’re bound to end up in my art.”

Vera spent most of her adult life in Graphic Design, both designing and creating various print media, then subsequently managing large creative teams. It was in her 40th year she realized she desperately missed fine art and designing something organically and not digitally. “I was reminded of a large painting I did in high school that earned a group showing at a large art gallery; the reminder of the anticipation and thrill of mixing and pushing paint along a surface was all I needed to get back into painting.”
