I packed up the studio in November. In February I had an urge to paint – not to sell, but just to create SOMETHING. So I got out the old sketch book, and started playing around with my old acrylics on some birch panels.
Not my best work, but it felt good finally have the sketches brought to life in colour. These are from photos I took many years ago on a winter walk along Lake Ontario.
Many people hate winter, but I find it is full of life and vividness. The earthy sparkle of the reddish-brown frozen sands, the lavender reflections through the waters, the powerful orange of a rising sun behind black clouds, or the silver shine the sun creates on the sheer ice of the lake. Everything feels dream-like and surreal in the winter, it is my favourite season.
Now it’s July, and I’m the one hibernating. Like a vampire, I avoid the sun and the heat makes me sick. My peaceful Lake Ontario is full of tourists and packed with chaos. Already I am longing for the fall to winter transition…
My creative spirit is quiet.
Still unsure of the direction it will take.
When I know more, I will share more…
And if you are still interested in purchasing any work from “Near and Far” I have three pieces left:
